Who we are

An initiative for
an urban Munich.

hochhinaus.bayern is a cross-partisan network from politics, science, the real-estate sector and civil society. Our goal: a sober, fact-based debate about how we create affordable, sustainable housing in Munich and Bavaria — including, and especially, upwards.

Our approach

Building is social policy.

Housing is key to social participation, economic productivity and ecological sustainability. We think these dimensions together.

01

Fact-based

We argue with numbers, studies and real-world examples. Emotion is part of the debate — but facts must remain the foundation.

02

Connected

We bring together actors who rarely sit at the same table: elected officials, architects, project developers, tenant councils, researchers.

03

Open

We are cross-partisan. Every voice that contributes constructively to the discourse is welcome — regardless of party, association or background.

Initiators & supporters

The people behind the initiative.

The initiative emerged in 2023 around the Munich High-Rise Study and the debate about the Paketpost site. The network has grown since.

How we see ourselves

We are neither a lobby nor a party. We are a group of Munich residents who take the issue of housing seriously in its full breadth — and who are willing to ask uncomfortable questions.

High-rises polarise. The topic touches cityscape, social structure, ecology and economy at the same time. That is precisely why we need a space in which these questions can be discussed openly, fact-based and without taboos. This space is what we want to create.

„Those who want to preserve green space while creating housing must think densification upwards. That is not ideology — that is urban planning with a slide rule." hochhinaus.bayern, position paper 2023
